You heard this here first! A blog exclusive announcement…no secrets really, just a great time planned!
Encore Theatre Company invite you to join them for a fundraising evening of wine and cheese tasting at the end of April!
If you are anything like me you will head off for the weekly shop and wonder which wine goes with what food and wonder if it will it actually taste as good as the label looks?!…because to be honest that is all I look at…anything with a comedy name and I’m sold!
How great would it be to actually know a little bit more about the wine in the supermarket? Here’s how…Encore have arranged a social wine and cheese tasting event for its members, friends, family and anyone who might be interested in joining us for a relaxed evening filled with wine, information, cheese, supper and maybe a boogie at the end of the night brimming with merriment and a bit more wine education!
We will be holding our wine tasting evening at the Ferrybridge Community Centre on 30th April at 7pm. The talk will feature 6 cheeses and 6 matching wines with a supper break half way through the evening. We also have a few games and raffle prizes to be won. The event has been arranged as a relaxed, fun evening while at the same time to help us raise funds for this year’s show and beyond. The wine talk will be held by John Butterwick of Winetalks who specialises in various forms of wine education. We have met with John and he definitely knows his stuff! John isn’t a wine merchant so none of the wine will be available to purchase on the night but it is all sourced from local supermarkets!
In 1991, John began to develop his long-standing interest in wine, by establishing his first wine tasting group, which soon became his main hobby. The research necessary to run such a group broadened his knowledge of wine.
In 1997 he passed the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Certificate and in 2001 he achieved the WSET Higher Certificate (since re-named the WSET Advanced Certificate). He has ambitions to pursue the WSET Diploma as soon as time permits, leading to an application for membership of the Association of Wine Educators.
In 2002 he was asked to develop and deliver a 10-week Wine Appreciation course (“Exploring the World of Wine”) by the North Yorkshire Adult Education Service based at Tadcaster Grammar School. This was followed by another 10-week course, “The Wines of France”. The courses ran for 5 years in Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet, but withdrawal of the Government subsidy for this kind of ‘leisure’ evening class, with a consequent increase in fees, resulted in a drop in the level of interest and those courses have not run since 2007. The courses recently resumed for a while at Wetherby High School for Leeds City College. John has been asked regularly by former course participants, to re-establish wine education opportunities in the local area. He has also collaborated with local restaurants (Mirabelle Restaurant in Harrogate and Le Box Bistrot in Boston Spa), local vineyards (Leventhorpe Vineyard near Leeds, Yorkshire Heart Vineyard near York and Ryedale Vineyard near Malton) and with the international hotel chain, the Holiday Inn.
So if you are in the mood for a laid back, no obligation to buy, fun-filled tasting evening why not join us on Saturday 30th April at 7pm?!
Tickets for the evening are just £15 each, or £25 per couple and £100 for a table of 8. Arrange a table with 7 friends and save money, it’s that easy!
You can buy tickets from us via email or phone/text to 07788720943 and arrangements can be made to pay by cheque or come along to rehearsals and pay for tickets.
This evening has been arranged to try something a little different in a relaxed atmosphere with great company and to learn something new.
